With the LV source gone the relays will stay in their last state even if you cycle power to the whole system. Line-voltage lighting is best for applications that require more diffused ambient light. Low-voltage system relays originally made by GE® or Remcon cannot be replaced individually with newer ones from Touch Plate – there are electrical design differences that mean the products are not interchangeable. If that part is good then check for power at the ceiling, the black wires to the white wires. Any relays or transformers that aren’t functioning can be replaced with GE brand. If your lights come with press-on fittings—the type that bite through the insulation and into the landscape lighting wire to make their connection—cut them off and use the wire connectors shown in Photo 4. Most systems are comprised of transformers, latching relays, and momentary switches. The farther a light is from the transformer (and the more lights installed between it and the transformer), the less light it will put out. BTW, if there is power in the ceiling box you can wire it so that the fan is “always hot” and is controlly by the pull string and the light is controlled by the wall switch. Low voltage, on the other hand, uses smaller light bulbs, so you can have more compact fixtures. The red wire runs from the relay to the “ON” terminal on the switch. These plates will not work with your old bracket – the new switches are a different size than the old ones and therefore won’t fit properly into your old bracket. Pressing the low-voltage switch operates a relay which in turn switches on or off a 120V light or other device in the home. 120V AC relay: This relay looks very similar, but look closer and you’ll see the coil is energized by 120 volts AC. Ratings for coil voltage and max switching current are usually printed on the side of the coil enclosure. You’ll need to extend a circuit and add the dimmer switch and an outside GFI receptacle outlet for the transformer(s), or possibly run a new circuit with the dimmer switch and GFI receptacle. As it stands now, you can’t just swap out LEDs and put in incandescent lamps; the fixtures are different. This makes it possible to control the lighting from any number of locations, including a central switching console.
